The Cleveland Humanities Festival is a collaborative event celebrating the great cultural institutions of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio, dedicated to humanistic inquiry. As part of this year's festival, the Schubert Center for Child Studies is a co-sponsor for this Baker-Nord Center for Humanities event to bring you Dr. Lisa Damour, who will discuss her latest book with Habeebah Rashid Grimes, Chief Executive Officer of Positive Education Programs. Her new book, The emotional lives of teenagers, Raising Connected, Capable, and Compassionate Adolescents, looks at the following:
- addresses the fact that adolescent mental health isn't about feeling good, calm, or relaxed but about having the right feelings at the correct times and knowing how to manage those feelings effectively
- offers guidance on how to help teens open up and how to keep teens from being overwhelmed by their emotions or feeling at the mercy of their moods
- provides concrete strategies for supporting teens as they manage their feelings at home, with their peers, online, and at school
Lisa Damour is an Advisor to the Schubert Center for Child Studies and a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychological Sciences, and an author of numerous academic papers, chapters, and books related to education and child development, including her recent New York Times bestsellers, Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood, and Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls. She is a contributor to the New York Times and CBS News. Copies of her book will be on sale during the event, and a signing will follow. Her book was released on February 21, 2023, and is available now.
