The Schubert Center for Child Studies expresses deep and profound gratitude to Gayle Channing Tenenbaum. Gayle was a fierce and formidable advocate for the most vulnerable children and families throughout her career and a dear friend to our Center.
In the early 2000s, Gayle, Marcia Egbert, and their close colleagues offered their wise counsel and guidance as the Schubert Center sought to develop a meaningful educational experience for undergraduate students in bridging research and policy on issues impacting children. Gayle's guidance and expertise were critical in developing what is now the Schubert Center's Child Policy Track for undergraduate students, led by Gabriella Celeste, the Policy Director at the Schubert Center.
Gayle tirelessly gave of her time in coming to CWRU undergraduate courses to offer policy perspectives and guest lectures, offering her insights to students who traveled to Columbus to learn more about the making of child policy, and generously consulted with then co-directors of the Schubert Center, Jill Korbin, and Richard Settersten about how to develop a meaningful program. As a result, many students have gone on to important careers blending the wisdom of bridging research and policy. We want to recognize Gayle's core role in developing this opportunity to enrich our students' lives and careers. As a remarkable leader with over four decades dedicated to improving life opportunities for children and families, Gayle's tremendous impact extends far beyond our campus and even our state -- it is especially fitting to honor her legacy during April as the National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Our hearts are with her daughters and the many friends and colleagues who relied on her wisdom, sharp wit, and her very big heart.
