Jennifer King, assistant professor and co-director of the Center on Trauma and Adversity will present "The Neurobiology of Trauma: The Power of Relationships to Heal." Decades of research have established that traumatic experiences can potentially impact our physical and mental well-being in detrimental ways. However, with an understanding of some basic principles of neurobiology and development, we can see how our relational connections have the power to buffer us against these negative impacts. This session will explore the connection between trauma, the brain and relationships and consider the 'why' behind commonly recommended strategies for nervous system regulation and self-soothing.
