Research Guidance

Appeals

  • Requests for appeals should initiate with an email to researchquestions@case.edu requesting an appeal. ORTM will then walk you through the process. All appeals must be approved by your dean prior to submission by the university. Individual PIs may not submit appeals independently.

Proposal Preparation and Submission

  • Continue to submit proposals to sponsor agencies as long as the federal submission system is operational.
  • For any proposals you’re working on, double check that the funding announcement hasn’t been revised or postponed.
  • Reconfirm all deadlines as there may be changes to proposal deadlines.
  • Consider signing up for funding alerts from the sponsor. Find links to several agency newsletters, emails and RSS feeds on ORTMs Federal Funding Opportunities Guide.
  • Before submission, review the executive orders impacting research (above) and determine how your proposals align.

Active Award Management

  • Unless otherwise directed, continue to perform all grant duties and obligations.
  • Review your grant or contract agreement to ensure you understand the terms, especially clauses related to funding availability and reimbursement.
  • Review project financials with the appropriate person in your department to ensure:
    • Carry over is reduced to less than 25% for continuing awards, and
    • A no cost extension will not be required at the end of the project.
  • If there’s a change in your award, the PASC will contact the PI, who is responsible for responding to any changes in a timely manner.
  • Federal agencies’ continuations and post-award action could be delayed.

Additional Expected Changes

Changes to research compliance requirements and award reporting requirements are expected. These could be implemented by a federal agency or on a project-by-project basis. Please forward any instructions you receive to researchquestions@case.edu and bookmark this page for additional updates.
