When Jodi Littman Tomaszewski (CWR ’95, LAW ’99) died unexpectedly in June, her friends and colleagues were shocked— and spurred to action in her memory.

Third-year �Ǹ���� School of Law student Andy Rumschlag is this year’s winner of the Adam A. Milani Disability Law Writing Competition, a national legal writing competition sponsored by the Mercer University School of Law and the American Bar Association Commission on Disability Rights.

The School of Law launched its new Master and Certificates in Compliance and Risk Management Programs in the fall of 2021. These programs are designed to meet the increasing demand by businesses and government agencies for experts in state, federal, and international laws and regulations.

Layla Maurer, a third-year law student at �Ǹ���� School of Law, has been an enthusiastic gamer since playing her first arcade games and Atari and Nintendo consoles. While the demands of law school occupy most of her days, she still finds time to unwind by gaming with her family.

In recognition of her edited book, Family Murder: Pathologies of Love and Hate (2019), Adjunct Professor Susan Hatters Friedman, MD, earned the American Psychiatric Association/American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law’s 2020 Manfred S. Guttmacher Award.

In October, �Ǹ���� School of Law First Amendment Clinic students Makela Hayford, Ginger Pinkerton and Nathan Venesky, along with First Amendment Fellow Sara Coulter, completed a 3½-day bench trial in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in Youngstown before the Honorable Judge Benita Y.

�Ǹ���� School of Law Professor Jonathan Adler was the sixth most cited professor in the field of Environmental Law from 2016-2020, according to a study released this month.  

As he retires as president of the George Gund Foundation at the end of the year, David Abbott will step into a new role in 2022 as the inaugural Distinguished Jurist in Residence at the �Ǹ���� School of Law.

Bailey Kadian never intended to follow so closely in her father’s footsteps. Yet she and her father, Mark Kadian (LAW ‘91), both chose �Ǹ���� School of Law after receiving undergraduate degrees in English from the University of Michigan.
