On March 30, 2021, U.S. News and World Report issued its Law School rankings for 2022. �Ǹ���� School of Law improved four places in the overall ranking and eight places in the International Law ranking.

Building upon Co-Dean Michael Scharf’s concept of “Grotian Moments” (paradigm shifts and tipping points in international law), as set out in his two recent books published by Cambridge University Press, the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg convened an international workshop on March 26-27, 2021, entitled “Grotian Moments in International Law.”

Professor Sharona Hoffman was recently asked by the local chapter of Wellesley Club, an organization which promotes literacy, to organize a book talk for Shipped, a debut novel receiving positive reviews.

Visiting Professor Katharine Van Tassel presented a paper entitled “Vulnerable Populations and Vaccine Injury Compensation: The Need for Legal Reform” at a conference hosted by Harvard and Yale Law Schools.

�Ǹ���� School of Law reached the finals of the Americas and Caribbean Round of the International Criminal Court Moot Court competition, held remotely from March 13–14.

Last year, �Ǹ���� School of Law launched a new Appellate Litigation Clinic, which recently completed a marathon month of oral arguments in four criminal appeals.

In the Winter 2021 issue of Prelaw Magazine, �Ǹ���� School of Law was awarded a top rating in public policy law that placed the school among the 20 highest in the nation.

Professors Karen Bradshaw of Arizona State University and Holly Doremus of the University of California at Berkeley discussed Professor Bradshaw’s new book Wildlife as Property Owners: A New Conception of Animal Rights in a webinar on March 1, 2021, sponsored by the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law.

The �Ǹ���� School of Law’s faculty is ranked 30th in the country in scholarly impact, based on citations to their articles.

Congratulations to the �Ǹ���� School of Law Jessup International Law Moot Court team, which competed last weekend in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court U.S. Regional Competition.

�Ǹ���� School of Law has received funding commitments of over $1 million from the Stanton Foundation to establish a First Amendment Clinic and First Amendment Clinic Fellowship in the school’s Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic Center.

Several organizations rank law schools each year. Collectively, these organizations rank CWRU in a range from 56th to 72nd best law school in the nation (out of 204). In addition, some rank specialty programs, where CWRU particularly excels.

In a trend accelerated by the coronavirus, the law is increasingly technology-driven, from the way lawyers prepare cases to the way courts try them. 

In early February, the �Ǹ���� School of Law Ault Mock Trial Team placed second out of 32 teams from across the country in the 13th annual Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy Competition hosted by George Mason University School of Law.  The CWRU team was also named best prosecution team in the competition.
