Susie Ruth Powell (’73) is the recipient of 2020 Centennial Medal Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a CWRU Law graduate.  Former managing attorney and litigator with NC Legal Services and assistant professor of law at North Carolina Central, Powell is co-author of the Emmy award-winning documentary, “The Loving Story.” 

Roe Green, an arts patron and community activist, is Chief Executive Officer of the Roe Green Foundation. Her father was federal district Judge Ben C. Green (Class of 1930), one of the most distinguished graduates of the law school, who passed away in 1983.

  This spring, the law school launched the Appellate Litigation Clinic, creating a live-client experience that builds on the appellate practice curriculum offered to second and third-year students.

On September 26, 2020, President Trump nominated 7th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals Judge and former Notre Dame Law Professor Amy Coney Barrett to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dean Michael Scharf was lead co-author of an Amicus Brief requested by the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Prosecutor v. Bosco Ntaganda case. 

Just days after revealing the first gift to a scholarship campaign in recognition of outgoing President Barbara R. Snyder, Case Western Reserve has announced its second: $2.5 million to support law students.

In 2020 Health Matrix:  Journal of Law-Medicine published its 30th volume.  Ranked 3rd among all specialty journals in the fields of health, medicine, psychology and psychiatry law, it stands out as a prominent resource for health law scholars.

This past spring, �Ǹ���� School of Law welcomed Beth Nagusky (‘82) back to teach an elective course on climate law for first-year students.

On September 18, 2020, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg succumbed to her long battle with cancer.  The country lost a towering jurist and is about to enter into a contentious process of selecting her replacement.

Many entering first-year law students were planning to travel or work during the summer before beginning law school. For most, such plans had to be shelved when the coronavirus struck.

Long-time members of the Case Western Reserve community may have seen them play iconic campus hangouts like the Barking Spiker, Euclid Tavern or Cosmic Dave’s Rock Club. Others could have caught their 2018 show at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
